About Felt

Felt making is a relatively new process for me. Technically felt is a textile, It is not woven or knitted but is a constructed fabric. It is created from a combination of heat, moisture, friction and pressure which causes the fibers to matt together.

Although my work has never conformed to any one mode of production I mainly consider myself a painter. With the discovery of the techniques involved in felt making, I like to think that my latest project is painting with wool. The medium can only be partially controlled and this lends itself to a new form of self-expression. I find the human figure a constant source of inspiration and enjoy the fluidity of this medium immensely as it allows me to explore the human form in a less controlled manner than I strive to achieve with my painting.
